Sector probes

Postby Framis » Sun Aug 12, 2018 12:59 pm

Are there any ways to probe sectors other than with a probe launched from a planet? (It would be nice to have a probe that would go on a rift ship to use to probe areas around rifts that lead to sectors without planets.)

Yes, you can load probe ships with probes and then shoot them down a hyperspace rift using action code 112. It will give you a sector report where the hyperspace rift leads to. Not the most efficient way to explore but does give you some highways to various parts of the galaxy.

I know about rift probes. I'm thinking of the case where a rift probe shows a sector without any planets. Is there any way to probe the adjacent sectors on the other side of the rift if they are too far away for a planet based probe?

Simple answer as far as my knowledge goes is nope.

More complicated one is rift exploration probe ship, going down rift and doing it the dangerous hard way. With death and explosion a highly likely outcome. The Rifts and Supernova are hungry.
